Charlie Wilson to Challenge Bill Johnson for Congress

ST. CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio -

Former U.S. Rep. Charlie Wilson (D) today announced his candidacy for United
States Congress from Ohio's sixth district. Wilson said that he will begin immediately to structure
his campaign and will continue to travel the district visiting with local leaders, small business owners
and voters to discuss the economic issues that face the district. A formal campaign kick-off and
announcement tour will follow early next year.

"It is simple: Bill Johnson has failed to provide leadership on creating jobs in eastern and southern Ohio.
He has failed to develop a plan to get our area's economy moving again. And, he has failed to improve
the toxic political environment in Washington, DC," said Wilson. "This Congress is the worst we've
ever seen. While Ohio families are struggling with severe economic challenges, Bill Johnson and the
congressional leadership are playing politics and not getting things done for us. That has got to stop."

Charlie Wilson is owner of Wilson Funeral Homes and Wilson Furniture – family businesses that have
been a part of the community for more than 100 years – and a former citizen legislator who served in
the Ohio Legislature and Congress. Wilson developed a reputation as an independent representative
who worked together with both Democrats and Republicans for the last 10 years on important issues
that matter to the people of the Ohio River Valley. As a member of the Blue Dog Coalition, Wilson was
a thoughtful voice for cutting the deficit, responsibly reducing regulations so businesses can grow, and
opposing new taxes on energy as proposed by national Democratic leaders.

"I am disappointed that Congressman Johnson supported President Obama's free trade agenda this
year. These agreements will ship even more of our jobs overseas," said Wilson. "Families from our area
and all over Ohio have been under attack as factories have downsized or closed and moved operations
out of the U.S. We need to get back to making it to making it in America again. I will work with
community leaders, county officials, and local businesses to develop a strategy to encourage innovation
and new start-up businesses and to appeal to employers to come to Ohio. It will be the cause of my
public service."

Wilson also cited protecting Social Security, strengthening Medicare and meeting our obligations to
support our Veterans as top issues.

"If elected, I will go to Washington with new energy, a new commitment to work with members of both
parties on good ideas that could lead to a better economy, and a solemn oath to serve the Ohio River
Valley's interests first and foremost and not the interests of any political party," said Wilson.

"If I've learned anything over the years is that there is a lot of wisdom and hard-earned common sense
in the communities of this district. I've lived my whole life here. I've raised my family here and built a
productive business that serves the public faithfully. I love it here. We have the guts, the smarts and
the work ethic to get back on the right track. I believe I can provide constructive leadership to help us
succeed."
