With the goal of transitioning ideas to commercial products and ventures, the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center at Wheeling Jesuit University is looking to assist technology-based start-up and early-stage companies move concepts to market.
An open house showcasing the IEC facilities and services will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Dec. 8. The IEC is located inside the National Technology Transfer Center on WJU's campus.
According to Director Ryan Wall, the IEC offers a variety of services including entrepreneur training and business incubation. The open house will provide the opportunity for the business community and others to tour the facility and meet the entrepreneurs who are currently working with the center.
"Throughout the year, we offer workshops and seminars on a range of topics designed to equip individuals with the skills and knowledge necessary to grow a new venture," he said. "Locally owned companies create new jobs, increase our tax base and enhance the quality of life for all in our community. This is particularly the case for technology-based businesses and we want to provide assistance to enable early-stage technology companies to succeed and grow."
Wall noted that currently, there are two start-ups working from IEC facilities, while internal technology research projects are taking place in-house.
