Police Investigate After Car Crashes on Wheeling Island

Posted: Updated:

Police are looking for the driver of a car who escaped on foot on Wheeling Island Thursday.

Wheeling police said it all happened around 4:30 p.m.

Police said the incident stems from the theft of a television at the Walmart in Moundsville.

Authorities said Bridgeport Police somehow got involved in a chase with the vehicle involved in the theft.  The driver fled to Wheeling Island, and crashed by Abbey's Restaurant.

Both the driver and passenger took off running, and Bridgeport Police managed to arrest the passenger.

While investigating the scene, police said they wound up finding an infant in a car seat in the back of that vehicle.

The baby was taken to OVMC, DHHR was contacted and West Virginia took custody of the baby.

We are told the driver of the vehicle is described as a white male with black hair and has a black t-shirt on.

He was last seen on the north end of Wheeling Island.

Suspects involved could face charges of fleeing, theft and child endangerment.
