Unsolved Murder Case Has Police Stumped

Posted: Updated:

Charleston police are beginning 2012 by analyzing newly collected evidence from last year's only unsolved slaying.

Four homicide investigations were conducted in the city in 2011. In the previous year, there were 11 slayings. Two of those remain unsolved.

According to authorities, an investigation began after the body of 28-year-old Megan Kathleen Harrison was found floating in the Elk River.

Charleston Police Sgt. Bobby Eggleton says the investigation got off to a slow start because the river destroyed most of the DNA evidence.

Recently collected evidence has been sent to a lab for testing. Eggleton says that evidence should be analyzed within the next few months to bring police closer to a suspect.
