It's any singer's dream. The chance to appear on American Idol. For Shane Bruce from Marshall County that dream became a reality.

This past Thursday a local coal miner turned big time as his American Idol audition in Pittsburgh debuted. 19-year-old Shane Bruce from Moundsville traded in working underground for a chance to sing in front of the judges.

Shane said he got his start singing from his father who was in band while Shane was growing up. He wanted to be just like his father.

Shane told us when he was thirteen he was watching American Idol and told his mother he would get his chance to be there one day and would win. Even though Shane did not make it through, he is not giving up.

Shane's mom is looking for someone to help him with voice lessons. He says he is also attempting to learn to play the guitar. He says he wants to be more prepared for next time so he can "knock their socks off".

American Idol producers were impressed with Shane's story and brought their camera's to the mine where he works.

Shane has had an outpouring of support from fans locally and all over the world.

Shane posted a video to Youtube on Friday and it officially has over 100,000 views.

He was also trending on Twitter within minutes after his performance.

Shane said he has had an overwhelming amount of support and is very blessed for a small town boy.
