Two Young Men Are Killed As Their Car Crashes Into A Bank In Moundsville

Posted: Updated:

Moundsville Police say the two men who were killed have been identified as 22-year-old Stephen Berardi Jr. and 24-year-old George Martin, both of Glen Easton.

They say Berardi was the driver.

They ended up at the corner of 8th Street and LaFayette Avenue, smashed into Progressive Bank.

"A little after three o'clock in the morning, a vehicle traveling southbound on Route 2 lost control and crashed, and ended up with the fatality of two young Moundsville residents," says Chief Tom Mitchell of the Moundsville Police Department. "They hit a fire hydrant, a pole and then the front of the bank. Excessive speed is indicated in the way the crash occurred and the violence of the collision."

Police say blood samples were taken from the victims, but that's standard procedure in cases of this sort.

They say there's no specific reason to suspect impaired driving.

So far, they say, it looks like a combination of high speed and a wet pavement.
