The No.2 ranked Wheeling Park girls basketball team improved to 16-2 with a 63-53 win over visiting Parkersburg South, as the Park Patriots sweep the season series from the South Patriots.
Wheeling Park won earlier this season in Wood County by one point.
On Saturday, they celebrated senior day, with a 10-point victory. Seniors Krista Crawshaw and Alex Franke were honored before the game.
Junior first-team, all-stater Emily Puskarich led Wheeling Park with 18 points. Kelsi Johnson added 10 points, point guard Marissa Tucker and two-guard Haley Robb contributed 9.
Meantime, in Glen Dale, John Marshall used an improbable rally to stun Martins Ferry in double-overtime 72-70. Point guard Kristen Lewicki bombed in a 30-footer at the buzzer to send the game to overtime. JM senior Alexis Montes scored a career-high 28 points. Martins Ferry was led by junior ace Jessica Kinney, who scored 24 points, and went over 1,000 points for her career. She's the 8th Lady Purple Rider to score over 1,000 points.
