Lenes Leads Nailers to Another Victory; Now in First Place

Posted: Updated:

The Wheeling Nailers chalked up another win, thanks to the smallest player on the ice.

Peter Lenes, 5-foot-4, scored the go-ahead goal in the third period, which turned out to be the game-winning goal in the Nailers 2-1 at Trenton.

Nailers captain Paul Crowder broke a scoreless tie in the third, just :47 into the period, with his 12th goal of the season.

Trenton's Rob Bordson's 14th goal of the season knotted the score at 1-1, until Lenes scored his 19th goal of the season, and 11th since joining the Nailers via a trade a few weeks ago.

The win, coupled with an Elmira loss, moves the Nailers into a tie for first place in the Atlantic Division with the Jackals at 55 points.

Wheeling is now 26-16-3.
