Manning Rallies the Giants Over the Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI

Posted: Updated:

Eli Manning drove the New York Giants on a 9-play, 88-yard drive, capped with an Ahmad Bradshaw 6-yard touchdown run with a little less than a minute left, lifting the Giants to a 21-17 win over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Manning was named the MVP, after throwing for 296 yards, completing 30-of-40 passes. The Giants had a 9-0 lead, but watched it disappear quickly, thanks to a pair of Tom Brady touchdown passes to Danny Woodhead and Aaron Hernandez respectively.

Giants kicker Lawrence Tynes contributed a pair of field goals to pull his team to within 17-15 at the end of the third quarter.  Bradshaw's touchdown run was the only scoring in the fourth quarter.  But he tired not to score, when he nearly fell down on his own at the one-yard line to keep the clock running. It was a ploy by the Patriots, to let Bradshaw score, to give Brady another chance with the ball.  Brady did have a last-second heave into the end zone that was batted down to end the game.

The first score of the game was a safety against the Patriots, as Brady was called for intentional grounding in his own end zone. The pressure came defensive lineman from Justin Tuck, who forced Brady to thrown the ball deep down the middle of the field without one of his receivers anywhere near the play.

Giants coach Tom Coughlin becomes the oldest coach to win a Super Bowl at 65.

It's the Giants fourth  Super Bowl victory in franchise history.
