
Wheeling Park High School multi-sport star Errin Baynes has officially signed his national letter of intent to continue his track & field career at the University of Southern California.
Baynes is the first Wheeling Park D-1 signee since Ryan Beabout inked a letter of intent to run cross country and track at Tennessee in 2008.
Baynes, who also excels in soccer and basketball, holds the Wheeling Park High School high-jump record and is currently ranked third in the nation. He is a two-time OVAC, and state high-jump champion, and will go for No.3 at each meet this spring. Baynes opened some eyes when he broke the stadium record at a meet in Mars, Pa. last season when he cleared 7'25". He also competed at the New Balance High School Nationals as a junior.
On the soccer field, Baynes was a three-time, First-Team, All-OVAC midfielder and was named the 2011 OVAC Player of the Year.
Baynes is also a three-year starter on Michael Jebbia's basketball team, and has played in six state tournament games to this point in his career. He helped the Patriots win back-to-back OVAC 4-A championships, and currently averages 14 points and five assists per game. Baynes poured in a career-high 38 points against Parkersburg South this season.
Baynes is also involved in many extracurricular activities. He serves as the Vice President of the National Honor Society; Secretary of the South Division, OVAC Varsity Board; and a Freshman Mentor. Baynes is also a member of the Drug-Free Club of America, Young Life, and is a volunteer at the Christian Center.
Baynes is the son of Darryl and Linda Baynes of Wheeling and carries a 4.1 Grade Point Average.
