Students at West Liberty University will now have another option in the field of medicine and sports.
On Monday school officials announced WLU's Athletic Training Program was approved by the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission.
The new curriculum will provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to evaluate, treat, and rehabilitate athletes of all ages in a wide variety of physical activities.
WLU's President Robin Capehart said, "this is an exciting new academic offering for students interested in the growing field of athletic training and the interconnection of sports and medicine."
Rhonda Noble, chair of the WLU Department of Health Human Performance said that the goal of the WLU Athletic Training Program is to meet the standards of the National Athletic Trainers' Association and the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education.
