WELLSBURG -

Tom Jarrell of the Wellsburg Police was hit by a car shortly before 7:00 a.m. Tuesday.

He was hit at the cross section of Route 2 and Cross Creek then rushed to Weirton Medical Center.  He suffered injuries to both wrists, knee, and hip.

According to Brooke County Sheriff Richard Ferguson, Officer Jarrell was struck after a car coming towards him lost sight of him.  The Sheriff said conditions were dark and hard to see.

There is no word yet on the identity of the driver who struck the officer or any pending charges.
