Wheeling Jesuit University's board of trustees recently welcomed six new members.
According to a university press release, Chairman Margaret "Mimie" Helm, the new members join a board of 18 active and two emeritus members.
Rudy Bilich, CPA, Pittsburgh, is a partner with Deloitte Tax, LLP. Bilich works with manufacturing and other types of companies, both public and private, hospitals, not-for-profit organizations and higher education institutions. Bilich has more than 33 years of experience in client service. In addition, he serves as a tax quality risk manager for the Central Region of Deloitte Tax. He is a past-president of the Pennsylvania Institute of CPAs.
Bilich earned his Bachelor of Science in accounting and business administration at Wheeling Jesuit and his Master of Business Administration degree at Duquesne University.
Rev. Simon J. Hendry, S.J., is a Jesuit priest in the New Orleans Province. He was ordained in 1977 and took his final vows as a Jesuit in 1991. Hendry is currently the director of the Catholic Studies Program at the University of Detroit Mercy, a position he's held since 2006. He also is the superior of the Jesuit community at the University of Detroit Mercy.
Hendry worked in Jesuit high schools in a number of capacities. He also directed retreats at a spirituality center, served as the director of the Jesuit Volunteer Corps in the South, and was the director of the Jesuit Center and University Mission and Identity at Loyola University, New Orleans. Hendry earned his Bachelor of Science in chemistry from Spring Hill College, Mobile, Ala., and entered Michigan State University as a graduate student in physical chemistry, before entering the Jesuit novitiate. He then earned a Master of Divinity degree from the Jesuit School of Theology, Chicago, and a Ph.D. in theology with a focus on the integration of spirituality and social justice from the Graduate Theology Union, Berkeley, Calif.
George J. Joseph, Charleston, W.Va., is a member attorney with the firm of Bailey, Joseph & Slotnick, a general litigation practice centering on representation of individuals and entities in the areas of insurance defense, medical and professional malpractice, product liability, personal injury, governmental liability, labor and employment law, deliberate intent, toxic torts and environmental law.
Joseph earned his Bachelor of Science degree in history at Wheeling Jesuit and his Juris Doctorate degree at West Virginia University.
Jeanne Henry Neff, Oakland, Md., retired in 2008 after 13 years as president of The Sage Colleges (NY), during which she was widely recognized for her work in regional economic development. She chaired the board of the National Council for Independent Colleges and was a director of the American Association of Colleges and Universities. Prior to Sage, she was vice-president for academic affairs at Susquehanna University (Pa.). From 1980 to 1986, Neff was academic vice president at Wheeling Jesuit and before that a dean and professor. She began her career teaching at Carlow University in Pittsburgh. After retirement, Neff served as interim president of Garrett College (Md.) and is now chair of the board of the Garrett College Foundation.
Neff earned her Bachelor of Arts in English at Wheeling Jesuit, her Master of Arts at Rice University and her Doctor of Arts degree at Carnegie-Mellon University. She also is a graduate of Harvard University's Institute for Educational Management.
James T. Smith, Jr., Hunt Valley, Md., is a partner in the firm of Smith, Gildea & Schmidt, LLC. From 2002–2010, he served as a Baltimore county chief executive and from 1998–2001 he was a circuit court judge on the 3rd Judicial Circuit of Maryland. He also was an adjunct professor at the University of Maryland School of Law. Additionally, Smith was a councilman on the Baltimore County Council and a deputy public defender.
Smith earned his Bachelor of Arts in English at Wheeling Jesuit and his Juris Doctorate degree at the University of Maryland.
Dr. Jessica Ybanez-Morano practices in Wheeling. She is the Medical Director for Women's Health Specialists at Wheeling Hospital and the Obstetrics and Gynecology Director for the Family Practice Residency Program of Wheeling Hospital. Dr. Ybanez-Morano is doubly boarded with the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American College of Physician Executives.
Dr. Ybanez-Morano graduated from Seton Hill University and graduated with her dual degrees MD (Doctor of Medicine) and MPH (Masters in Public Health) from West Virginia University and the Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Ybanez-Morano maintains a dynamic surgical consultancy schedule. Her surgical expertise and interest are focused on minimally invasive advanced laparoscopic surgery, urogynecology and pelvic surgery.
