CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -

There may be no more indoor tanning for kids under 18 in West Virginia.

A bill to ban children from indoor tanning is another step closer to becoming law.

The bill that passed  would require proof of age before the person could tan and tanning salons would have to register with their local health departments.

Sen. Bob Williams voted against the bill because he says such a
law would shutter tanning salons due to the loss of their younger
customers.

Williams questioned whether the health statistics that
proponents cite are true.

The American Cancer Society believes such bans would help reduce
the number of melanoma cases among young adults.
