TRIADELPHIA -
One student was transported to a local hospital following an accident on Middle Creek Road shortly before 9:00 a.m. Wednesday morning.
Crews from AEP, the West Virginia Department of Transportation, Triadelphia police and EMS, Stone Church EMS, Valley Grove EMS, the Ohio County Sheriff's Department and personnel from Ohio County schools were all on scene.
The school bus ended up in the yard of a residence at 402 Middle Creek road, and smashed into a white Dodge pickup truck parked outside of the home. No one was inside the truck at the time of the accident.
Triadelphia EMS transported the elementary-aged student to the hospital with minor injuries, while the rest of the children were escorted onto another school bus and taken to the school and checked out by EMT's. Parents picked up the students and signed release forms.
Sergeant James Kendle with the Triadelphia Police Department said the school bus driver was tested for drugs and alcohol as per standard procedure.
As of 11:30 a.m., there is no word on the cause of the accident, and the road was shut down for a few hours while crews investigated. Power was also knocked out, as the bus snapped a telephone pole in half, leaving it hanging by its wires.
The Triadelphia Police Department and Ohio County Schools are investigating the accident. There is no word on whether charges will be filed against the bus driver.
Kendle said it would take three to four days to complete the investigation. He has to wait for results of the drug and alcohol test and interview the bus driver.
