
A high-speed chase early Saturday morning in Wetzel County resulted in two patrolman and a suspected drunk driver being sent to the hospital.
According to New Martinsville Police Chief tom Cecil at 3:30 a.m. a drunk driver slammed into a cruiser causing the cruiser to spin into the guard rail. A second cruiser was then struck by the suspects vehicle.
Chief Cecil said the chase began at Maple Avenue when police initiated a traffic stop. The chase ended at four lanes near the Speedway convenience mart.
Patrolmen Don Larson and Adam Skinner were transported to Wetzel County Hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
The suspect, Brian Bassett, was also taken to Wetzel County Hospital. Cecil said Bassett has been released from the hospital and is being taken to the regional jail.
One police cruiser was totaled in the chase while the other sustained minor damages. The other vehicle involved was totaled and reported stolen this morning.
According to Cecil, Bassett will face charges of fleeing while driving drunk and grand theft auto.
