Finding A Family: Benny's Story

Benny Benny

"So what's your favorite video game?" I asked Benny as we walked into GameStop. "Call of Duty," he said. "Do you already have it or is that what we're buying today?" "I don't have it yet, I'm going to see if it's in here…"

Thirteen-year old Benny is a "video-gaming guru." "What do you like about it?" I asked him. "Well, it has rocket launchers and it's action-y."

We headed to GameStop with $30 to spend, and Benny was like a kid in a candy store!

"It made my day!" he said with a smile.

And speaking of candy, our next stop to Coldstone was the icing on his cake!

"That's your favorite, just the plain chocolate?" I asked him. "Yeah," he said. But then he mixes that with M&M's and tops it off with sprinkles.

"Tell me a little bit about yourself," I asked. "Well, I like video games, I like sweets, I like dogs."

Benny also has a secret talent. He can sing; something he'd like to do for a living.

"Who's your favorite singer?" I asked him. "Justin Bieber," he said right away. "Why do you like Justin Bieber?" I asked. "Well, he's a great singer, he's a nice guy, sings positive thoughts…and he taught me some real nice stuff. I would like to meet him one day."

Although he wouldn't sing for us… "Naahhh…"he opened up about another soft spot: wanting a forever family.

"A family that has really nice brothers, sisters, one that just looks up to me like family," he said.

And ideally, he'd like to be the oldest. "So if they ever get bullied I can help them."

Benny also likes skateboarding, pit bulls, and NASCAR; all things that would mean so much more…if he had a family to share them with.

"I would be really really happy; no longer wandering, going back and forth, traveling a lot. I would be right there with them, just being a kid. Doing what a kid should. That would mean lots to me."
