Large parts of the former Weirton Steel are up for sale and we've confirmed that Arcellor Mittal could announce in just months who's buying up the 1,800 acres the company is trying to sell.
The big question tonight: who does Arcellor Mittal want to sell to and for what reason?
USW 2911 President Mark Glyptis says things are still in the early stages, "There has been a lot of work put in on the sale of this land. C.B. Richard Ellis is the broker hired to sell the land."
The Weirton Planning Commission will meet this Wednesday evening at 5:30 for a hearing to sub-divide the property that's owned by Arcellor Mittal.
Weirton Mayor George Kondik said it's his hope that the property will be sold. Kondik also said, "What we're hoping for is when this grand of scale it will create jobs in the city of Weirton."
7 News has also confirmed that Arcellor Mittal is selling just about every piece of property the company sits on except the tin mill. As for as the tin mill, Glytpis said things here are good. He said just last month the company hired 34 new workers.
Count on 7 News to be at the Planning Commission meeting on Wednesday and we will be sure to let you know what happens.
