A news conference is scheduled for Tuesday at 4 p.m. to announce the sale of the Wheeling Nailers.
As WTRF.com and 7 News were the first to tell you, the Wheeling Nailers, the proud AA affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Montreal Canadians, have been sold to a local group.
The team has been for sale since late January, and several interested groups--both local and out of town--have inquired to purchase the team.
We've confirmed through a source close to the situation, who does not want to be identified, that the team was bought by Regional Economic Development, or RED, headed by Don Rigby, and W.A.H.A, the Wheeling Area Hockey Association.
The source says the deal was signed last Friday.
Monday is allegedly the final day the ECHL gave the Nailers to have a sale in place.
More details will be announced soon.

On the ice, the Nailers dropped a seventh straight game on Sunday night 3-2 in a shootout against Elmira.
The Nailers are currently in sixth place in the playoff race, with three games left in the regular season. The magic number to clinch a post-season berth is two.
