7News was first on scene Sunday as a double homicide rocked the town of Cambridge, Ohio around 3 a.m.
Authorities with the Guernsey County Sheriff's Office and Bureau of Criminal Investigations are trying to figure out who committed this tragic crime.
"I don't believe our deputies have responded to this residence in the past," Detective Sgt. Sam Williams with the Guernsey County Sheriff's Office said.
Cynthia Lynch was sitting on her cousin's back porch when she heard the sound of gunshots.
"It's odd because you hear things and make assumptions of what's going on," she said. "It never occurred to me that someone in this environment was killing someone. It never crossed my mind."
The sheriff's department said they first learned of the incident when neighbors called in the sound of gunshots.
When police arrived to the murder scene at Coventry Estates on 2 Coventry Drive Apartment C, they found a white man lying dead on the front lawn with multiple gunshot wounds. A black man was then found on the ground in the back of the apartment building, alive but with gunshot wounds as well. Police said he was taken to Southeast Ohio Regional Medical Center where he later died.
The sheriff's office said they have not located a weapon.
The woman who rents the apartment was not home when they arrived on scene, but authorities found her at her home in Zanesville, safe and ready for questioning.
Identities of the victims have not been released yet.
Their bodies have been taken to Stark County for autopsies.
