
Wellsburg will hold its annual 4th of July celebration on Wednesday, capping off a week of activities, the biggest celebration of its kind in West Virginia.
Festivities will kick off at 8:30 a.m. with a flag raising in Town Square, followed by the Wendy's 5K Run/Walk from 9:00 through 11:00.
The Oil Can Derby begins at 1:00 p.m. on 4th Street at the Salvation Army. This event is for kids ages 8-13.
A bike decorating contest will be held in Town Square at 6:00 p.m., sponsored by the Kiwanis Club.
The parade will begin at 7:00 p.m., with a military flyover.
At 9:00 Wednesday night, the Jared Harlan Band will be performing at the Betty Carr Rec. Site, prior to the fireworks. The Wellsburg All-American Idol Winners will perform then, as well.
Fireworks will blast off at 9:30 p.m. at the Betty Carr Rec. Site, and if the event needs to be rescheduled, the rain date is July 7, 2012.
