The Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce has announced the selection of its Annual Dinner Meeting Keynote Speaker.
Award-winning composer Marvin Hamlisch will do the honors on Sept. 24th at St. Florian Hall.
Hamlisch first rose to national prominence when he adapted Scott Joplin's ragtime music for the 1973 George Roy Hill film, "The Sting", starring Paul Newman and Robert Redford. The movie went on to win an Oscar for Hamlisch in the Best Original Song Score and/or Adaptation category.
As a composer, Hamlisch has won virtually every major award that exists -- three Oscars, four Grammy's, four Emmy's, a Tony, and three Golden Globe awards.
For Broadway, he has written the music for his groundbreaking show, A CHORUS LINE, which received the Pulitzer Prize.
According to the Chamber's news release, Hamlisch is now working on a new musical called ''Gotta Dance'', and will write the music for a film about Liberace starring Michael Douglas and Matt Damon.
