BELLAIRE, Ohio -

Multiple fire departments spent nearly three hours on the scene of an apartment fire in Belmont County on Wednesday morning.

According to Neffs Fire Chief John Driscoll, the apartment building was next to the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Home on 37th Street in Bellaire. Original reports said that the fire appeared to be at the funeral home, but 7News has confirmed the funeral home did not sustain damage.

One man was rescued from the apartment building by Officer Yates and Officer Shallcross of the Bellaire Police Department, according to Driscoll. He was transported to OVMC with burns. There is no word on his condition.

Reports say the fire broke out sometime around 3:45 a.m., and fire crews were on scene until 7:00 a.m.

The Ohio fire marshal has been called in to start an investigation into the cause on Wednesday morning. Driscoll said he believes the fire is accidental.

Damage was contained to an apartment upstairs, while the other three suffered smoke and water damage.
