Martins Ferry mayor's wife is investigated for theft from concession stand

Posted: Updated:

Officials confirm the Martins Ferry mayor's wife is suspected of theft.

Belmont County Assistant Prosecutor Dan Fry confirms the suspect is 44-year-old Paula Riethmiller of Martins Ferry.

He says on July 6, a witness says they saw Riethmiller allegedly take less than $200 from the Martins Ferry Civics' concession stand at Fodor Field.

Fry says that evening, Martins Ferry Police set up a surveillance video camera, and he says more money was allegedly taken the following day, and that was captured on video.

Fry says Riethmiller is an umpire for games at Fodor Field, and is among several people who apparently have access to the interior of the concession stand.

Assistant Prosecutor Fry, who is also the Martins Ferry law director, says the case will be handed over to Special Prosecutor Tom Hampton of Barnesville.

He says both his (Fry's) office and the Martins Ferry Police Department are in positions of conflict in this case, hence it requires a special prosecutor.
