With the hot summer temperatures and the Pittsburgh Pirates doing well, its hard to believe football season is right around the corner.
On Monday the 2012 football season officially started in the Friendly City.
They are the gladiators of the grade school and the Little Patriots were back at Wheeling Island to begin practice for the season that's quickly approaching.
Players from 1st through 5th grade traded in the Playstation controller for the pigskin.
"We had a great showing today with players from all ages. It's nice to see the kids get so excited for football season again," added Little Patriots President Jim Smith.
Even the cheerleaders were also getting in a little practice.
The Little Patriots will hold their first game on August 26th.
"I'm glad football season is back. All three of my sons are out there having a blast," added parent and coach Charles Riggs.
All games will be played at Wheeling Island Stadium.
