There's been an sharp spike in auto thefts in the Elm Grove area. Eleven vehicles were broken into in the past seven days. Nine of those robberies occurred Monday night.
The suspects have been taking loose change and electronics out of cars that have been left unlocked overnight.
No matter how safe you believe your neighborhood to be, its important to always lock your car doors. It's also a good idea to remove any valuables from your car.
Wheeling police chief Shawn Schwertfeger says the thefts are being taken very seriously.
If you see any suspicious activity or have any information regarding these car thefts you are asked to call the Wheeling Police.
