Most people are aware of the crime problem in Steubenville. One local judge is taking a no nonsense approach when it comes to posting bond for folks facing serious charges.
If it's a criminal case and it involves a gun here in the City of Steubenville, Judge Dan Spahn is the man who will be hearing the charges.
In the past month alone, many folks have faced serious charges including murder, attempted murder and firing a gun within the city limits.
Judge Spahn now says if you face those charges in his courtroom, chances are your bond will be set high.
"All those factors make me very concerned about public safety," said Judge Spahn. "Therefore I take the public safety criteria very seriously. I've been setting substantial bonds on all of those types of cases."
There has been an increase in those types of cases in municipal court, but Judge Spahn is pointing out that he is looking at each case individually.
