BELMONT COUNTY -
The Ohio Valley Coal Company announced Friday it has been forced to reduce its workforce at the Powhatan No. 6 Mine in Belmont County, Ohio.
According to a news release 29 hourly jobs will be cut. The company cites regulatory excess of the Obama Administration as a direct cause to the layoffs.
General Manager Ronald Koontz expressed disappointment over the action.
"We are deeply disappointed and saddened that we had to take this action," he said. "But excessive and unnecessary regulatory actions of the Obama Administration have disrupted our mining operations and taken away much of the market for our coal."
The company will continue to employ 680 persons following the layoff.
