On the heels of the announced layoffs at the Ohio Valley Coal Company, Ormet has announced the shutdown of one of six potlines at it's Hannibal mill.
President and CEO Mike Tanchuk confirmed for 7News that the WARN notices have been filed with the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services.
The layoffs will affect 30 to 50 employees and be complete sometime in mid-September.
Tanchuk says the stronger dollar and the increase in metal prices have hurt the market for aluminum.
Tanchuk added that he had waited to the last possible moment to make the layoffs and that the union understood and appreciated the delay.
