Union Workers Rally in Harrison County Thursday

Posted: Updated:

Nearly 2 dozen union workers rallied along US Route 250 in Harrison County Thursday morning.

The labor workers are upset with oil and gas contractors because they're not using a union workforce.

The labor workers demonstrated near a gas pipeline that is being installed near Tappan Lake.

"We have 130 workers on layoff in our Steubenville office," said Clint Powell, Business Manager for Laborers International Local 809.

Sheriff Joe Myers was called to the scene of the protest today after The Ohio Department of Transportation had concerns that a large inflatable rat might distract drivers.  The sheriff said that the demonstrators were far enough off of the highway and he didn't believe that they were in any danger.

The union workers say they want to see more contractors higher union workers.
