CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -
Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin is thanking contributors who helped replenish the state's food pantries after recent storms left thousands of people without electricity.
Tomblin said Thursday that the Mountaineer Food Bank and the Huntington Area Food Bank have received more than $147,000 and five truckloads of food collected during statewide food drives this month. The food banks will distribute the donations to food pantries across the state.
Tomblin says in a news release that contributions came from hundreds of individuals, families, businesses and community organizations.
They include a Wheeling woman who sent $2 to Tomblin, all that she could spare. Tomblin says people like her embody the West Virginia spirit of neighbor helping neighbor.
