The Cleveland Browns have been approached about possible investment in the National Football League franchise. Browns owner Randy Lerner says he's discussing a possible investment in the team by Nashville businessman Jimmy Haslam.
The team announced Friday that Lerner was approached by Haslam about his interest in making an investment in the Browns. It didn't specify if Haslam wants to buy all or part of the team.
Both parties have agreed to keep the details out of the public view. Lerner does not want these negotiations to become a distraction as training camp begins for the upcoming season.
Haslam has been a minority owner in the Pittsburgh Steelers since 2008. Lerner has been team owner since late 2002, when he inherited the team from his late father, Al Lerner.
The NFL would have final say on any transaction.
