COLUMBUS,Ohio -

The State of Ohio is right on track to elevate the state Medicaid office to a cabinet level office.

The Governor's Office of Health Transformation Director Greg Moody that the Medicaid office would leave the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services.

Moody says the move is the next step to improve the performance of Ohio's Medicaid program.

According to a JFS press release, the switch, recommended by two different studies, will be complete July 1, 2014.

Moody added that removing Medicaid from the state's social services agency should allow JFS to improve its focus on welfare benefits programs.
