CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -

There is a need for public awareness of the American with Disabilities act according to the new state director when it comes to public laws.

Lawyer Kim Nuckles has began raising awareness by sending surveys to more than 100 state agencies.

The survey is intended to help Nuckles formulate a plan to determine what's most important to the state.

Results of the survey are due back Aug. 1. The survey's results will be presented to the state Legislature.

She also will develop, implement and monitor a statewide program to assure compliance with the federal ADA.
