Help Still Available in Jefferson County with Summer Cooling Program

One of the hottest months of the year is here but in Jefferson County, the Community Action Council is helping with electric bills and free air conditioners to those who qualify.

According to a news release, people with a documented medical condition,households with disconnection notice or seniors age 60 and over qualify to receive assistance with the electric bill and/or to receive a free air conditioner or fan.

A maximum family income for four persons is $46,100.

You have to present proof of income  for all members of the household 18 years or older for the past 90 days from date of appointment:pay stubs, copies of SS or SSI checks , bank statements, alimony. child support , pensions  and utility allowances.

Officials said social security cards ,birth certificates, utility bills with a disconnect notice, and or vendor information(fuel and propane) are necessary.
