West Virginia will soon host the leaders of the bipartisan commission that's tried to tackle the federal debt.
U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin announced Wednesday that Erskine Bowles and former Sen. Alan Simpson will appear at a Sept. 10 summit at the Culture Center on the state Capitol grounds.
Erskine was President Bill Clinton's chief of staff. Simpson is a Wyoming Republican. President Barack Obama picked them in 2010 to lead the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform.
A gridlocked Congress has yet to act on the commission's recommended array of spending cuts and tax increases.
Manchin has been supportive of the commission and efforts. The West Virginia Democrat is hosting the September forum, which he's calling Our Finances & Our Future: A Bipartisan Conversation About the Facts.
