Ohio Democratic Chairman Reacts to GOP VP Pick

Reaction to the news that presumptive Republican Presidential nominee Mitt Romney had selected U.S. Representative Paul Ryan from Wisconsin as his choice for Vice President on the ticket came immediately from the Chairman of the Ohio Democratic Party.

Chairman Chris Redfern believes the Republican ticket will cut Medicare.

"Paul Ryan got his start in politics, as a young staffer just out of college, working for then-Congressman John Kasich's Budget Committee," Redfern wrote in a press release.  "Ryan cut his teeth working long, tireless hours for Kasich, helping him slash programs for working families, grinding progress to a halt, and laying the groundwork to shut down the federal government," Redford continued.

"Romney as president would be bad enough, but Ryan as Vice-President would be catastrophic and take us back to the policies that crashed our economy. Ryan would pound a sharp stake into the heart of Medicare, and we won't let that happen," Redfern wrote.

So far, Ohio Democrats have yet in this election cycle to make southeastern Ohio their focus.  The only major Democratic party leader to visit the area was Vice President Joe Biden.  He visited Staffilino Chevrolet in Martins Ferry in May of this year.
