School Bus Safety Tips - WTRF 7 News Sports Weather - Wheeling Steubenville

Many students returned to school Wednesday and school bus safety is on the minds of a lot parents, especially with young kids heading back.

If your child rides the school bus, you have to trust drivers will obey the law.  School leaders say their safety depends on drivers stopping when they see the red sign and flashing lights.

Here are some safety tips for your students who are heading back to classes:

• Make sure you're early.
  
• Do not approach until the bus comes to a complete stop.
  
• Use hand rails when entering and exiting.
  
• Never run. Always walk.
• Wait until the driver says it is okay to enter or exit the bus.
  
• Walk at least ten feet from the front bumper so the driver can see you.
  
• Watch for a signal from the bus driver before crossing the road.
