Wheeling Sees A Rise in Traffic Violations

The Wheeling Police Department is reporting an increase in the number of red light and stop sign violations from Target Red Enforcement.

Authorities say the Target Red campaign ran from Aug. 1 to Aug 15 and officers wrote 181 red light/stop sign citations.

That number is a lot higher than last year's number of 82.

Police said they focused their efforts on problem intersections throughout the city but special attention was focused on Wheeling Island where children often play near busy intersections.

According to a news release,officers also recorded 1 DUI, 7 Driving suspended violations, 2 drug arrests and several texting while driving violations.
