A garage fire in Belmont County left the structure and the vehicles a total loss. 7News was told that the fire started when workers inside were heating up asphalt sealing tar when it caught on fire early Saturday morning.
Volunteer firefighters responded from Barton, Cumberland Trail and Colerain Fire Departments. We're told the structure next to the garage was not harmed in the fire.
Barton's Assistant Fire chief tells 7News they struggled to access the chemical fire. Crews had to wait for tow trucks to move the vehicles in the garage.
"We had to pull two lines and start to extinguish the fire," he says. "We also called for mutual aid from Station 22, Colerain, and Station 23, Cumberland Trail. We were able to extinguish the fire. We called a towing company in to remove the vehicles so we could get to the product in the back of the structure."
The fire investigator will determine the exact cause of this fire. No injuries were reported.
