CHARLESTON (AP) — Kanawha County Republicans have chosen a candidate to replace a former magistrate who resigned as part of a settlement with the state Judicial Investigation Commission.
The county GOP Executive Committee on Saturday chose John Jarman for the November ballot. Jarman unsuccessfully sought the GOP nomination for assessor in May.
In April, the judicial ethics panel accused Fouty of violating five counts of the state Judicial Code of Conduct. She was accused of having defendants trade work for her in exchange for leniency in her courtroom.
Tim Morris, chairman of the Kanawha County Republican committee, filed a request to have her name removed from the ballot. Both the state Election Commission and the Secretary of State's office agreed to remove Fouty's name.
