The two 16-year-old Steubenville Big Red teens were officially charged Friday morning in the sexual assault case.
One of the boys was charged with three counts; one count of rape in the first degree, one count of kidnapping in the second degree and one count of illegal use of minor, handling nudity oriented material, in the second degree.
The second boy was charged with two counts; one count of rape in the first degree and one count of kidnapping in the second degree.
The next step in this case will be to schedule an additional appearance hearing within the next 15 days. During that hearing the two boys charged will be advised of their rights, charges against them possible penalties and enter denial plea.
Jefferson County Prosecutor's office filed the charges. Assistant Prosecutor Samuel Pate prepared the charges and Prosecutor Jane Hanlin reviewed them before filing them in court Friday.
Authorities report the two Steubenville teens accused of rape have officially been charged in connection with alleged kidnapping and rape of another minor.
Two 16-year-old juveniles went before Juvenile Judge Samuel W. Kerr at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday after being arrested on charges of rape and kidnapping.
They are felonies of the first and second degree.
Authorities said the two juveniles were taken from their home at 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. and taken to the juvenile detention facility.

Two 16-year-old juveniles have been arrested and charged with allegedly raping a juvenile girl.
According to Steubenville Police, the incident happened at a party two weeks ago.
Police also said they worked late Tuesday night before making the arrests.
According to Steubenville Police Chief Bill McAfferty, the two accused of rape are students from Steubenville High School. Steubenville Police arrested one of the accused, while the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department arrested the other.
There have been numerous rumors since the alleged incident that several parties took place that weekend.
Steubenville Police Department continues to investigate and the case will now be transferred to the Juvenile Court System.

Parents of a juvenile girl filed a report August 14 alleging their daughter was sexually assaulted.
