
Wheeling Police arrested John Redman early Saturday morning after a pistol fell out of his pants and onto the ground.
Authorities say Redman, 29, of Wheeling, had been carrying a loaded Smith and Wesson outside the Legion bar inside his waistband. Cpl. Ward, Sgt. Nolan and Patrolman Hayes witnessed the weapon fall according to records.
Cpl. Ward then shouted at Redman to step away from the gun who proceeded to pick the pistol up and walk up Jacob Street. According to police records Cpl. Ward then pointed his service weapon at Redman and ordered him to place the gun on the ground.
After several attempts Redman placed the weapon on the ground, placed his hands on the wall and was taken into custody according to police.
Police, who ordered Redman to take a breathalyzer test, say he was unable to stand straight, had blood shot eyes and slurred speech. The breathalyzer indicated a blood alcohol content of 0.224 according to police records.
Redman has been charged with allegedly brandishing a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, obstructing a police officer and public intoxication.
Redman was arraigned by Ohio County Magistrate Joe Roxby Saturday morning.
