NEW MARTINSVILLE -

One person was injured after a fire at the PPG Plant in Marshall County on Saturday night, according to Marshall County EMA Director Tom Hart.

Emergency crews from Moundsville Fire Department, Washington Lands, the Marshall County Sheriff's Department, Tri-State EMS and Wetzel County all responded to the scene around 6:45 p.m.

Heavy smoke and flames could reportedly be seen from the highway when the fire first broke out.

A portion of Route 2 was shut down as a precautionary measure for about ten minutes as crews from multiple departments battled the initial flames.

Hart said one person was transported by ambulance to Wetzel County Hospital, but there is no word on the extent of the injuries, or the condition of the person who was transported.

He added the fire did not warrant an evacuation and the public was not in danger at any time.

As of 10:15 p.m., the flames were out and a post-fire inspection was being conducted by the Moundsville Fire Department and the PPG Fire Brigade.

Hart said once the inspection is done, there will be both an internal investigation and one by the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection over the next few days.
