One candidate is saying, "It's not the supreme court of Charleston, it's the supreme court of West Virginia".
Judge John Yoder is running for Supreme Court Justice. 7News spoke with him today regarding his statement.
Yoder is running for Supreme Court Justice, because he believes the system can be improved and that he's the man to do it. Yoder has worked in all three branches of government, which he says gives him the ability to understand the way the job works.
This is an important race because those who are elected will be elected for 12 years, and there are two seats open. In other words, 40 percent of the court is being elected for the next four years.
Yoder says we need a 'less political' court system here in West Virginia because it impacts our job climate in the state.
"I think we need a change in the status quo on the court in order to attract businesses to the state that create jobs, because we definitely need more jobs in this state," he said.
Yoder says we have been rated the most anti-business court system in the United States for a few years now.
One thing unique about this race is that Yoder is one of the only candidates not from Charleston. He says this gives him an advantage to bring some geographical diversity into the court.
