The Elizabethtown Festival in Moundsville kicked off on Saturday. The free event teaches Moundsville's heritage and includes games and a petting zoo for kids, as well as food, music and vendors.
This years venue is the former West Virginia State Penitentiary where tours will be discounted for all visitors this weekend.
WTRF.com was there during the Little Miss Elizabethtown competition on Saturday. Congratulations to the winners, Kenna Lilley and Carley Cochran!
Suzanne Park, Director of the Moundsville Economic Development Council, says the festival celebrates Moundsville's unique history.
"Elizabethtown was the original city that was built in the early 1700's," she says. "Moundsville came second. When the children of the Tomblinson family and the gentleman who created Moundsville married, the two communities joined together to form Moundsville. We just don't want to forget the heritage that was started here with the Elizabethtown community."
The Elizabethtown Festival is free to the public and will be open on Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm.
