WTRF.com UPDATE

An 18-year-old Wheeling Island woman is in the hospital suffering from serious injuries after being run over by a car last night.

Police say that the victim,  Lindsey Mann, is currently still unconscious and in the ICU at a local hospital.

At this time, Wheeling Deputy Police Chief Marty Kimball says they don't know if there were any drugs or alcohol involved in the incident.

The driver of the car was transported to the hospital and given field sobriety tests, several of which, Kimball said he failed.

Blood work was sent down to the West Virginia State Police Lab for analysis, to determine if there were any type of chemicals or other intoxicants in his blood system.

"Charges may be pending, but there are none filed at this time," Kimball said.

According to both the driver and other witness, it appears to be some sort of a prank done by the victim, resulting in her own injuries.

"It just goes to show you what serious consequences can result from what seems to be an innocent prank," Kimball said. "A moving vehicle is never anything to play with. It can cause severe injuries as, unfortunately, this young woman has found out."

Since Mann has been unconscious since Monday night, police haven't been able to get her side of the story, which Kimball said sometimes changes things.

An 18-year-old Wheeling Island woman is in the hospital suffering from serious injuries after being run over by a car last night.

According to Wheeling Police, the incident happened on North York Street shortly after 11 p.m.

The woman was dropped off at her home by two friends, both 18 years old.

But now, what starts as a possible prank, turns into something far more dangerous.

Police say the girl jumped onto the hood of the car while it was driving away, and managed to get trapped underneath it.  According to police, her leg was tangled under the car.

Crews were called in to lift the vehicle and get the girl out.

She was taken to a nearby hospital where as of Tuesday morning, she is unconscious and is suffering very serious injuries.

Police continue to investigate as the driver reportedly failed a number of sobriety tests.
