Renzella Speaks Out About Delayed Cameron School Project

CAMERON -

Cameron Residents have been expressing concerns on the progress of the $32 Million project Marshall County Schools has taken on.

The building of a new high school/middle school complex is now 14 months behind schedule and about a half million dollars over budget.

Wednesday, 7News sat down with Marshall County School Superintendent Fred Renzella, who spoke out about these concerns.

Renzella said he understands why people are so disturbed over the delayed progress, but that there have been conditions that are out of their control. Some of the factors that contributed include months of rain and, according to Renzella, competition for skilled trade laborers with Oil and Gas companies.

Renzella said some of the factors came as a surprise, but others didn't.

"The cost of a project to go over budget is not uncommon and we're managing that to the best of our ability," Renzella adds that at the conclusion of the project, they will give a full accounting of the cost of the project and explain to the public, in great detail, why this happened.

"But we can't do it now," he says. "We have to finish the school first."

Renzella wants to assure everyone that they are on the job daily working to get this project completed.

"It will be spectacular," he said.
