Construction is under way for both eastbound and westbound lanes of Interstate 70 in Ohio County.
Both eastbound and westbound lanes, from milepost 0.77 to milepost 1.70 will be affected, according to the W.Va. Division of Highways.
Traffic will be limited to one lane in both directions as crews work on "removing the existing asphalt pavement surface; performing concrete joint repair in the underlying concrete surface; placing new asphalt surface; drainage work, new guardrail and new pavement markings," a news release states.
Commuters will notice lane restrictions through the Wheeling Tunnel that may cause congestion. The I-70 Eastbound Market Street entrance ramp to the Wheeling Tunnel will be closed until the duration of the construction.
The I-70 eastbound ramp to Washington Avenue will be open to traffic however the westbound exit ramp to Washington Avenue will be affected by lane restrictions, according to the W.Va. DOH.
The work will be performed 24/7, seven days a week until complete. According to the DOH, the anticipated date for completion is Nov. 30.
The DOH advises motorists to use alternate routes to avoid delays and to allow extra time for delays.
Alternate routes include Interstate 470, U.S. Route 40, and W.Va. Route 88.
