West Liberty's Petroval Named WVIAC Player of the Week

Posted: Updated:

After helping lead the West Liberty University women's soccer team to the first West Virginia Conference win in school history, Hilltopper standout Paige Petroval has been honored as the WVIAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week.

A sophomore defender from Moon Township, Pa., Petroval hammered home a pair of goals on Friday as Coach Barry Christmas's Hilltoppers pulled away to a 3-1 victory at Ohio Valley University.

Petroval's first score, which snapped a 1-1 deadlock in the 36th minute, came off a free kick deep from just outside the box that she deposited into the top left corner of the net to give the visitors a 2-1 lead at intermission.

She added an insurance goal in the 52nd minute by converting the first penalty kick in West Liberty history and now leads the Black and Gold with 3 goals through the first six games.

The Hilltoppers (2-4, 1-2), competing in their first season as a varsity program, return to the WVIAC pitch on Saturday with a 6 p.m. match at Charleston.
